Boris Fedorovich Godunov (* 1552; † 1605) was a Russian boyar who played a crucial role in the country’s politics between 1584 and 1598, as he was the brother-in-law of the religious, apolitical and possibly retarded Zar Fedor I. He was a member of the Rurikid dynasty, but not by blood. After the death of Fedor and the extinction of the Rurikids, Boris Godunov was Zar and Grand Prince of Russia between 1598 and 1605.
