Peter III. Fjodorowitsch (real name Karl Peter Ulrich von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, * 1728; † 1762) was Emperor of Russia for just six months. He was the grandson Peter I. and Catherine I. and is regarded the founder of the Romanov-Holstein-Gottorp line. He made peace with Prussia and switched sides in the Seven Years’ War. Peter III. also was the husband of Princess Sophie Auguste of Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg, later Empress Catherine II., whose supporters finally overthrew and murdered him in July 1762.
